BX-01 - 5' foot door DS rebuild box car
Starting 1919 to 1921 CPR embarked on a program to rebuild early century double sheath box cars with steel reinforcement. The 160000-161594 series cars were 5 foot door cars rebuilt with steel center sill, Murphy steel roof and reinforced beam ends. According to railway documentation one car was lettered for Montreal and Atlantic Rwy; however, I am not able to reconcile the number.
The 160000 series had a surprisingly long life with the last revenue car delisted in 1959. Many were reassigned to non-revenue service in the 400000 series and operated for many years.
Prototype photos show that there were 2 end styles. The "as built" end had vertical side planking. The second style observed had horizontal boards.
The kit includes one piece body, underframe, details, metal ladders, steps, brake bits and decals. You provide wire, trucks and couplers.
