BX-05 52250-59998 Standard 30T Truss-rod Box Car

CPR built 3158 standard 30 ton wood frame truss-rod box cars between 1904 and 1912. Hundreds were still in service in the early 1940s with the final 9 delisted in 1951.

Two models are planned.

BX-05a Lettering and details as built.
BX-05b Lettering and details for 1917 and later with modern safety appliances.

The kit includes one piece body, underframe, details, metal ladders, steps, brake bits and decals. You provide wire, trucks and couplers.

Just off of the work table. Instructions written and models built.

A couple metal bits need some straighting and such but it's done. I'm glad I do a test build because there were a couple lessons learned in the build.

The final kit's end queen posts will be metal etchings. They're too small to handle as a 3D printed object. For the A kit, I had to fabricate something up for the A car's stirrup steps to figure out the correct size. The kit will have proper step etchings. When building the B kit I discovered that I missed a grab iron on the end. I fixed the drawing and we're good to go. Decals and etchings are in the works and once I have a delivery ETA for them I'll work out release date. Perhaps mid-summer?

Photos of A and B shell test print. B kit shell is in the foreground. It's close. The end truss rod saddles are a bit of a problem/fragile and need some beefing up. I have some minor changes planned for the roof too.
